The Southern California Yachting Association’s 81st Midwinter Regatta is gearing up for the weekend of February 20th and 21st. The regatta will be hosted at thirty three clubs from the Channel Islands to San Diego and all ports in between and also including inland lakes from the Pacific Coast to Arizona. Races will be held for sailboats, yachts, radio-controlled models, land yachts, powerboats and outrigger canoes.
Attracting over 600 boats, the Midwinter is the largest regatta in North America. This regatta will feature 80 classes including PHRF, cruisers, multihull, dinghies, predict log racing, canoes, and model sailboats.“Every sailor should get involved,” said Midwinter Chairman Morrie Willkie “This is the tune-up event that kicks off the 2010 racing season. It’s a community event that unites sailors throughout Southern California and Arizona. The Midwinter has grown substantially as new venues and classes have been added.“We are praying for good weather,” continued Willkie, “Last year the weather was great for a regatta. Rain or shine the Midwinter races will run.”
